Summer Theatre Arts Intensive

YouTheatre of Flat Rock Playhouse and Green River Preserve Present:

A residential co-ed camp that integrates a nature program with a focus on performing arts. This weeklong intensive summer camp program will offer campers the opportunity to “unplug” in the picturesque mountains of Western North Carolina and work on performing arts skills with the professional staff of the YouTheatre of Flat Rock Playhouse, the State Theatre of North Carolina, and one of the top regional theatres nationwide.

This summer Flat Rock Playhouse YouTheatre will partner with the mission and philosophy of Green River Preserve, where bright, curious and creative children connect with the joy and wonder of nature and THE ARTS.  Green River believes and encourages creative thought and artistic development. YouTheatre believes in individuality, self-confidence, and the freedom to imagine, learn and grow in a nurturing creative environment. Together, Green River Preserve and YouTheatre will offer campers the opportunity of a lifetime.

Program and Curriculum will include:

• Using the inspiration of nature in art – nature has been a core foundation for artists, play-writes, actors, and directors throughout history. We will focus on the inspiration of nature in character development, personal development, self-expression, and finding the truth. An opportunity to strengthen character, and heighten appreciation and awareness of the natural world, its influence in the arts and the ability to be yourself.

• Participation in Green River Preserve Morning Mentor Hikes.

• Afternoons will include intensive acting workshops, vocal workshops, dance and movement with YouTheatre staff.

• Evenings will integrate Green River Preserve camp activities with the focus on theatre arts.

• We will spend one full day at Flat Rock Playhouse with a morning master class, tickets to the mainstage production of Guys and Dolls, theatre tour and talk back session with the New York Cast.

Open to ages: rising 6th through rising 9th grade.  August 5 – 10, 2012.

Flat Rock YouTheatre Staff

Green River Preserve and The Flat Rock Playhouse are partnering this summer (2012) for a week of theater and nature. Together, the GRP Staff and The Flat Rock Playhouse YouTheatre Staff will use nature as an inspiration for art.

The Flat Rock Playhouse YouTheatre Staff is a group of artists with real professional experience at the highest levels of artistic achievement.
