Campout Day! (Session 5)

After a hearty breakfast of grits, eggs, bacon, toast, cantaloupe, cereal, fruit, and yogurt, the campers returned to their cabins to clean up and then went to the East Field to learn about Leave No Trace/Low Impact Camping. They talked about going to the bathroom, purifying water, how to string up a bear bag (to protect food from wild animals), orienteering, fire building and more. Then the sister/brother cabin groups packed up their gear into backpacks.

Rest hour followed lunch and then they packed food for the next couple of days since they’ll be out until Sunday. We’ll be checking in with them periodically to make sure all is going well. Mentor Caroline will have an update about the campout when they return.
