Final day for Session 3
By Sandy Schenck
This morning the campers and staff got to sleep later this morning and ate breakfast (oatmeal, sausage, biscuits, honey dew melon, cereal) in their PJs.
Even though it was raining some this morning, the afternoon remained somewhat dry. GLP locations were switched around to drier spots around camp if needed while some just did their projects in the off-and-on rain such as fly-fishing, tubing and some others. Despite the damp weather everyone had such a good time working on their projects!
Tonight was the closing banquet to say farewell to our two-weekers. Dinner included turkey, stuffing, rice, gravy, green beans with almonds, steamed squash, cranberries and for dessert – caramel cakes (from the Henderson County Curb Market) with ice cream! A slideshow was shown afterwards.
Later in the evening was the upper council fire where the campers placed their “spirit stones” in a circle around the campfire. Throughout the entire session they search for these special stones which they paint with a special design of their own. Then at the end of the summer, staff will move all of the spirit stones to the hillside next to the upper council fire – leaving a part of themselves here at Green River Preserve. The evening ended with a candlelight ceremony at the lake.
