GRP Wins Two Green Awards
By Sandy Schenck
We’re thrilled to announce that Green River Preserve has been awarded the Green America Business Seal of Approval and one of Great Nonprofits Top-Rated Green Nonprofit.
The top-rated green nonprofits list is composed of organizations that have received at least ten positive reviews from stakeholders, such as volunteers, donors, or clients. The reviews were posted as part of Green River Preserve’s Green Choice ’11 campaign conducted by Great Nonprofits, in partnership with Guidestar and a coalition of nonprofit organizations.
“We are gratified to be able to honor Green River Preserve for its work on summer learning loss and nature deficit disorder,” said Perla Ni, CEO of GreatNonprofits. “They deserve to be recognized for the support they have from their community of stakeholders.”
The Green America Business seal is presented to businesses that go beyond product and service quality to set the highest standards in environmental sustainability and social justice, and work to solve, rather than create, environmental and social problems.
To be considered for the Seal of Approval and earn a listing in the annual National Green Pages™, businesses complete a rigorous screening process to ensure they meet Green America’s standards for the environment, community and labor.
“We are excited to earn this coveted Seal of Approval,” said Missy and Sandy Schenck, founders and Executive Directors of Green River Preserve. “It’s one of the most respected and recognized symbols in the green marketplace and a powerful way to set Green River Preserve apart as a leader in its field.”
Green River Preserve is known for its unique summer camp and educational school programs, located on a 3,400 acre private wildlife preserve in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina. They show exemplary concern for people and the planet by having an intentional focus on environmental education, providing a non-academic setting where campers can learn how to be respectful, contributing members of a community. The program offers a creative, nurturing, & intellectually stimulating approach to connecting children to the joy and wonder of the natural world.
