Opening Day! (Session 7)

By Sandy Schenck

A humid, partly sunny day greeted Session 7 campers and their families this morning… along with a few of the camp dogs such as Bear and Ella. Some parents were reluctant to say good-bye, but also happy to see how excited their children were to be at camp.

After eating pizza, the campers went down to the gazebo for the Respect Circle – girls, first then the boys. Sandy and Missy talked about the founding of GRP and values of the community. They also talked about respecting themselves, each other and all living things. Then each camper and staff member, in turn, said, “I will.”

Afterwards, they went to the swimming lake where waterfront staff went over procedures and reviewed the campers’ swimming abilities. While the girls were doing the swim review, the boys played games on the front field and then they switched.

Activity skits and sign-ups came next which are always fun, then the much-anticipated free time where campers swam, read, played boardgames and more.

Dinner was fried chicken with all the fixings. (Vegetarian options are always available.) The evening program was the Upper Council Fire, then lights out. A full day of adventure, friendship, and fun awaits!

(Most of the cabin photos were taken today minus two. They will be taken tomorrow afternoon.)
