Outer Banks Expedition: Session 1
By Sandy Schenck
Pictures of the Expedition are here at last thanks to our good friend, Keith Rittmaster. Keith is the biologist for the NC Maritime Museum and long time friend of GRP.
The group visited Bonehenge with Keith. Bonehenge is Keith’s project to reconstruct the skeleton of a sperm whale found on the beaches around Cape Lookout. GRP has helped to sponsor this project by sponsoring two metacarpals. If you would like to help with this project and know more about what the expeditioners saw, then go to: http://bonehenge.org.
The expeditioners visited Bonehenge before they began their kayak trip on the outer islands. They met up with Keith again around Cape Lookout on Sunday (21st). On Sunday they spent time surfing, using a hydrophone (you can hear the animals in under the water), snorkeling and looking for sea turtles & dolphins aboard Keith’s boat the Spyhop.
As you can tell from the pictures, a good time was had by all. The expeditioners will continue their trip heading north along the outer banks and will return to the mainland on 24th.
