Outer Banks Expedition Session 2, July 14

By Sandy Schenck

The expeditioners spent a beautiful sunny day at Cape Lookout yesterday with Keith Rittmaster, biologist from the NC Maritime Museum. They learned to surf, went snorkeling and viewed sea turtles from Keith’s boat! Today, it has been raining and they have spent a “zero” day where they stay in one place and relax and get re-energized. Because of the rain, they had the whole lighthouse area to themselves. They chatted with the Park Rangers and got an impromptu turtle talk. Tomorrow, they are planning to climb the Cape Lookout Lighthouse. This is one of the first times that it has been open to the public in about 3 or 4 years. Photos are online.
