Session 4 Camp-Out

By Sandy Schenck

Campers headed out on camp-out on Tuesday, July 28. They spent the morning in “field training”—literally in our back field, learning about “Leave No Trace” ethics and low-impact camping (at lunchtime, the session campers seemed most impressed by was the one involving “spanky,” the spade used when one is using the restroom in the woods!). After a fortifying lunch of soup and grilled cheese sandwiches, they packed up their gear and food supplies and hiked out of camp.

We did have some inclement weather for that first night, but all groups have been radio-ing in and general reports have been good. We get out and about, too, to check on different groups, and last night they were playing in the Green River and exploring the areas around their campsites.

They return this afternoon, and we’ll have more reports then about what excitement they saw in the past couple of days!
