Staff Spotlight: Cierra Duncan

By Avery McGaha

For today’s Staff Spotlight, we caught up with Cierra Duncan!

Q: What is your position at GRP this Summer?
A: Trail Intern

Q: How many years have you been at GRP?
A: This will be my third year at GRP as a staff member and my tenth year overall.

Q: What are you currently doing?
A: I am currently working towards my degree in Food Science from Clemson University and will graduate in May 2017.

Q: What is your spirit animal and why?
A: My spirit animal would be a grizzly bear. Grizzly Bears are symbolic of strength and courage. I try to live life as fearlessly and courageously as possible, stepping out of my comfort zone often to try new things.

Q: What are you passionate about?
A: I am passionate about my dog, food, and inspiring a deeper appreciation of nature.

Q: What is your favorite thing to do outside?
A: My favorite things to do outside would probably include running, hiking, swimming, and going on adventures will my dog, Carson.

Q: Tell us about your favorite trip/experience.
A: My favorite experience would probably have to be doing the TrailBlazers Expedition twice. Building trails for GRP that I have used to take campers on Campout has been amazing to experience.

Q: Why did you choose to come back to GRP this summer?
A: Honestly, I can’t stay away from GRP for more than a year. Since I was a rising sixth grader, I have only missed two summers at camp. Also, I get to brag about spending a decade of summers at camp.

Q: What is something interesting that happened to you this year?
A: I studied abroad in Pamplona, Spain. My host mother didn’t speak any English, and I only remembered a little Spanish from high school. I became slightly more fluent in Spanish and was able to communicate with her enough by the end of the five weeks there. Also, I visited former camper and staff member, Tyler Smith, in Switzerland, while he was studying abroad.

Q: Where is your favorite place to hike?
A: My favorite place to hike is at GRP. My favorite trail has to be the Big Laurel Trail, the first trail built by TBX.

We’re always looking to add qualified, enthusiastic, and adventurous people to our team!
