Policies

It is important for all prospective staff to be aware of and in agreement with these policies before applying for a position with Green River Preserve.

  1. The contract signed by you and the director is a commitment made by you to the Green River Preserve. All staff must be certified in First Aid and CPR through the duration of your contract. There must be a health form completed and signed by a physician on file in the camp office by the first day of your employment.
  2. Staff members are not permitted to keep, drink, or be under the influence of alcoholic beverages or illicit or unprescribed substances on the Preserve property. All staff members are subject to random drug testing during their duration of employment at Green River Preserve.
  3. The Green River Preserve is a SMOKE FREE environment on all of its ground and in all of its buildings. Smoking and other use of tobacco is prohibited.
  4. Workman’s Compensation Insurance covers all staff members during their time on duty with the camp. The camp may contest reactivation of a chronic condition or activities not approved by the camp, which may cause injury. Staff members should carry their own accident, health, and automobile insurance. Automobile accidents involving private vehicles will be the responsibility of the individual, not the camp. This includes accidents occurring while driving for camp business. Temporary insurance is available through the camp’s insurance provider.
  5. The Green River Preserve has a zero tolerance policy for physical violence, verbal abuse, and weapon use. Furthermore, Green River Preserve does not tolerate behavior that creates an intimidating, hostile, or offensive environment on the basis of race, gender, color, national origin, religion, age, disability, or marital status. This policy extends to maintaining an environment free from sexual harassment. Unwelcome sexual advances and/or other verbal or physical conduct of a sexual nature will not be permitted. This extends to such harassment within the employment context as well as harassment of and between campers.
  6. We make a strong effort to encourage a natural lifestyle at camp. We encourage you not to bring radios, headphones, electronic equipment, or hairdryers to use in the cabins on a regular basis. Comfortable, appropriate attire is recommended for working and role modeling in an outdoor camp setting. Two Staff shirts will be supplied to employees.
  7. Due to health and ACA standards, we are unable to allow staff to bring their Pets to camp.
  8. Staff visitors are welcome at camp on a SHORT-TERM basis only. (Guests are limited to day visits and one meal. It is not possible for GRP to become a youth hostel during the busy summer months.) All visitors must be cleared with the directors before they arrive. No visitor is allowed to be alone anywhere with campers. All visitors must complete a Visitor Information Sheet available in the office. All visitations must be non-disruptive to the Staff member’s work. A staff member is responsible for the visitor’s behavior; violation of staff policies by a visitor will constitute cause for a staff member’s dismissal. Visitor may not bring pets to camp.
  9. Staff is asked to decline gratuities offered by parents of campers.
  10. Staff is asked to provide their own transportation for days off.
  11. Time-Off: Session length determines the number of nights and days off. Each two-week session has one short (6:00-11:45 PM) night off and one long (24hours) night off. Additionally, there are 24 to 48 hour breaks between sessions, including one 5-day break. Expeditions staff time off will vary with sessions.
  12. Staff Training : Staff training is one of the most important and valuable investments that Green River makes in its employees. 8-day paid staff training is mandatory for all summer staff.
  13. Total participation is expected for the entire 8-week camp for all full season employees. In the event of death or illness in the family, or urgent business, leave will be granted in relation to individual circumstances at the discretion of the camp director.
