Expeditions

The rivers and forests of the Appalachian Mountains and the island seas of the Outer Banks are living classrooms for bringing young adventurers to a more profound understanding of nature, self-awareness, and the joy of living. Green River Expeditions is an advanced program which offers opportunity to embrace the maturity required to step from Green River base camp to the Expedition’s level. Designed for mature rising 9th through 12th graders, Green River Expeditions are co-ed experiences for nature enthusiasts who want learning, outdoor adventure, and the joy of living in a close knit community.

A demonstrated interest in outdoor skills and natural science as well as an ability to contribute to a community of thoughtful explorers are criteria for selecting participants for each expedition. Expeditioners learn by doing, and some of the “doing,” although rewarding, is strenuous. Given the advanced nature of Expeditions, participants are expected to comply with the following guidelines:

Expeditions build upon the skills of exceptional leaders, most of who have been with Green River for many years. Leaders are selected based on breadth of knowledge, teaching and leadership skills, and ability to nurture wisdom and character. Our expedition leaders are some of the best in the business.
